Joseph Angel Tijerina, a Mexican American artist and independent fashion designer, is the creative force behind Aliens of Brooklyn—a bold, LGBTQIA+-owned streetwear and accessories brand based in Brooklyn, New York. Born and raised in Texas, Tijerina grew up in the 1990s inspired by iconic pop culture moments like Ghostbusters, which sparked a lifelong dream of moving to New York City.
After graduating from Wade College, an art and design school in Texas, Tijerina relocated to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where the diverse, ever-evolving street style deeply influenced their creative vision. “The people in Brooklyn were so vibrant, and everyone dressed however they wanted,” Tijerina shares. “I never knew I could come to a place where trends were ever-changing and there felt like no rules. I think this is what they meant when they said to find your tribe.”
Launched as a celebration of identity, creativity, and fearless self-expression, Aliens of Brooklyn blends 90s-inspired fashion with modern streetwear aesthetics. “I proudly embrace being a Mexican American and LGBTQIA+ brand,” says Tijerina. “It makes me brave—and maybe it will help others feel brave too.”
